LED technologies for cyclists

14/01/2015

No, this post is not about a bicycle LED lights, but about a coat.

UK-based company developed first of its kind illuminated jacket for cyclists. It's got a trick quite literally up it's sleeve, in the form of embedded LEDs that flash when the rider raises his arm to signal a turn. The orange lights along the back of the arm seams then flash for a few seconds, telling any furious white van drivers stuck behind them they they're about to change lanes or turn. The bottom of the back of the jacket has red brake light style LEDs in it too, although the coat's not yet clever enough to sense a rider's braking. Front white LEDs signalize to oncoming vehicles. The system is charged by USB battery pack and powered by easy access button in the jacket’s front. The coat is water resistant for maximum safety.

LEDs are perfect solution for road markings, because they are highly visible in night and fog. Although combination of wearable electronics and sports may sounds unwieldy, the LED jacket seems practical and stylish product.
